8 Months Down The Line?

Can someone please tell me how it is 8 months since I gave birth!?

8 months ago I was lying in a hospital bed not know what our future would hold. A mind full of what ifs and a body full of heartache. The not knowing was the worst, not knowing if our daughter would live or if she would die, not knowing whether we would get to hear our daughters first cry or hear her take her first breath.

It feels like yesterday our life was turned upside down but here we are 8 months later with a daughter with a face full of mischief and love.

During this time, I've realised how to really appreciate everything that goes on in life. Especially family, through the hardest time in our lives they were there through everything. Through the nightmares to our happily ever after.

8 months down the line and thought it was time to update you all.

Every other week we have different appointments, from cardiology, ophthalmology, neurology to just general check ups to make sure Freya is hitting milestones.

Ophthalmology are so happy with Freya, after her laser eye surgery her retina is still attached which means she is not going to be blind. Their main concern was that Freya doesn't focus on things close to her face, but concentrates on things further away. They still need to measure her eyesight to see if she needs glasses or not. From my point of view I have a feeling she will need them, 90% of both families wear them including myself. I have raised my concern about it and asked if we can be referred sooner.

Her weekly with the Neonatal home team are going great, she is pilling on the weight which is always good, off her oxygen during the day and all we need to do is get her off during the night. By the sounds of it they are waiting until after Christmas to do that, which is perfectly fine with us. They are so happy with her progress which is all I can ask for really.

Clinic appointments at Neonatal. They are happy with Freya's progress too. All we need to get her to do is lift her head while doing tummy time, unfortunately this is seeming like a challenge. She is holding her head while holding her upright but point blank refused to do it on her tummy. We are doing tummy time 3 times a day and gradually she is learning to do it. Hopefully within the next few weeks before her next appointment she will master this!

Cardiology we will see at her next appointment, but everything is looking good so they say. Can't really complain with that. They used all these fancy words that basically went in one ear and out the other.

Neurology are over the moon with how the VP shunt is working. We just need to see them when she is 1 which is amazing! That was the one that got us all worried as Freya wasn't able to drain CSF by herself which obviously ended in Freya going through surgery and needing a shunt in place. Hopefully it keeps on working and doesn't need to go through the surgery again, but 50% of the time they stop working so we will just need to wait and see.

Apart from that Freya is a happy and health baby and honestly I couldn't ask for anything more. She laughs and smiles every day and she just makes my heart melt. It's scary to think how much difference a little time can make. It's like I've blinded and we are 8 months down the line. I can't wait to see what the rest of the year will hold for our family.
